Lifestyle

Around since the 1600s, London’s Members’ Clubs were once the bastion of the elite, before transforming into places exclusive to professional, political and artistic types to network and mingle in surroundings characterised by old-school charm. A vital part of London’s social fabric, membership is highly sought after by anyone seeking to stay connected. They're also a place to take some personal time to relax and wind down, far from the clamour of everyday life. Expect late night revelry, colourful characters and no small amount of tantalising gossip! Here, we’re going to take a look at some of the capital’s most popular and fashionable clubs…

The Savile Club, Mayfair

Mayfair’s Savile Club dates all the way back to 1868. Established by a group of artists and writers, it boasts Rudyard Kipling, WB Yeats and Thomas Hardy as previous members and continues to this day to be frequented by a range of illustrious authors. Situated in an elegant 18th century building, the club comes complete with a magnificent ballroom, a library, roof-terrace and snooker room. In many ways, this remains the definitive private club, encompassing all the traditions and luxuries associated with a particular type of London lifestyle. Classy and fashionable, Savile’s continues to set the tone.

The House of KOKO, Camden

Camden has always been one of the city’s most dynamic and stylish boroughs, and The House of KOKO is the coolest club on the block. Set over multiple floors, there’s an expansive cocktail bar, a huge roof-terrace and a series of intimate ‘Vinyl Rooms’. There’s also Ellen’s, a jazz and blues bar that showcases a regular line-up of first-class musical acts, plus a supper club, a Sunday family lunch and a games night. Easy going workspaces and exceptional food ensure members enjoy a five-star experience that also includes private DJ sets, film screenings and poetry nights. Eclectic and intriguing, The House of KOKO is the real deal.

Home House, Marylebone

Designed by Goerge III’s architect James Wyatt, this is a private club specifically crafted to provide as much luxury and refinement as possible for all its members. The range of facilities here are second-to-none, with restaurants, a spa, elegant bedrooms and dining rooms, and a stunning courtyard garden combining to ensure a superlative and immersive experience. Relaxed and inclusive, this is a place where people come to network, but also to socialise, wind down and leave the world far behind them. Another benefit is the quality of the afternoon tea, which is famously extravagant. A true London classic.

Soho House, Soho

Perhaps the most famous of all London’s members’ clubs, Soho House is synonymous with style, sophistication and creativity. Set within a Grade II listed building on Greek Street, it features a range of contemporary art, a series of outdoor spaces and a stunning rooftop terrace. The all-day menu, plus a range of pop-up restaurants mean the food is always of the highest possible standard, whilst the partying goes on into the small hours courtesy of London’s best DJ’s, who regularly play exclusive sets, available to members only. A defining part of London culture, Soho House easily retains its status as one of the capital’s most sought-after destinations.

Previously the Bag O’ Nails - which played host to musical legends like Jimi Hendrix, The Who, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles - The Court is one of Soho’s premier venues, which to this day showcases the very best in musical talent. With nightly performances, it remains the heart of the capital’s music scene, providing exclusive gigs and events for its members.
